Ideal Suri Seminar #1 a huge success! The cold didn’t stop US!

What a treat to have Jude Anderson and Alan Cousill sharing their Suri alpaca experience in our own home! We had a GREAT group of alpaca owners and enthusiasts who were willing to learn and willing to share. I believe everyone enjoyed this opportunity to learn more about the Suri business and to take advantage of networking opportunities. Thanks to all who braved the bitter cold and we’ll see you at the next one in February 2014!

Suri Symposium – Show Me the Money!

I didn’t go to the 2013 Suri Network Symposium to win $500 but that’s what happened after entering a drawing for half the pot! Thanks SN! That aside, the Symposium is a must for anyone serious about progress in the Suri business. Having attended for the second year as a new breeder, I found the information invaluable. Being somewhat “mathy” I loved the focus on data, and am starting to believe that failure to enter the Suri Herd Improvement Program (S.H.I.P) at the ground level could be costly i

Futurity Show – be sure to go!

I attended the 2013 Futurity in Kansas City to learn about this annual gem and see some of the best animals in the country. What an experience! Not having animals in the show allowed me to sit back and observe. I was able to talk with elite alpaca breeders, attend educational seminars, get creative ideas for booth displays, and was even able to show some animals for the first time. I purchased Blue Ginger in the auction, a Huckleberry daughter bred to Chakotah’s Wyuna!

Visit to Pucara International

I flew to Oregon earlier this year to visit Pucara because I wanted to bend the ear of some of the best in the business. I also wanted to see how they managed a ranch of several hundred alpacas! One of my favorite moments was weighing in around 30 animals, which motivated me to buy a new scale. I learned that regular weigh-ins is one of the best ways to stay on top of alpaca health. Al and Jude were great. I came away with a memorable experience…and two pregnant Chakotah daughters!

Mystic Brown

We are very excited to welcome this dark brown cria to the Goldyn Rae herd! Mystic’s dam, Hip Hop, is the daughter of Pucara International’s very best colored female, Pucara Sonata. Hip Hop’s sire is the famous Chakotah; Chakotah’s grand sire is the one and only Kahuna!

Mystic’s sire is 90 Proof of Castle Pines, a striking Sirius Black son in the MacGyver line who took first place in the 2010 AOBA, Futurity, CABA and NWAS shorn classes.
